SHARP is committed to enhancing the presence of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in its community and to supporting the progression of these scholars in their academic and research careers. Between 2021 and 2025 SHARP distributed 25 research development grants of US$1,000 to support training and career development to respond actively to the issues of racism and under-representation.

- Andreas Patrick Bassett (University of Washington) to support PhD research at the Harry Ransom Centre on the publisher Robert Pollard and bookshop in Restoration era London
- Billy Kahora (University of Bristol) for research on the writing of Facing Mount Kenya by Jomo Kenyatta during his time in London and the interactions and publishing histories that shaped the book
- Guillermo Pupo Pernet (University of Arkansas/Emory University) to support archival research and a conference presentation on how the Orinoco River and its region influenced the production of El Orinoco Ilustrado
- Claire Lavarreda (Northeastern University) to support PhD research on Indigenous cosmologies and colonial texts in the dissemination of Catholicism in New France and New Spain at the Chicago Newberry Library and the Huntington Library
- Titas Bose (University of Chicago) to support archival research for the PhD “Gifts for Children: Bengali Children’s Periodicals and the Making of Children’s Reading (1883–1938) in West Bengal, India
